I almost cancelled today’s news post due to lack of reportable content, but last night I found an announcement of a “new” retro game collection for a multitude of systems. With this one, beat’em up fans may be interested. It’s the Beat ’Em Up Collection from QUByte!
The games included are,
- First Samurai
- Second Samurai
- Gourmet Warriors
- Iron Commando
- Legend
- Sword of Sodan
- The Tale of Clouds and Winds (Water Margin)
The release is scheduled to come out in about a week and a half on Nintendo Switch and also supports the Switch 2. Beyond that, it will also (likely) be available on PS4/PS5, Xbox One/Xbox Series X|S, and Steam soon. I say likely because no other store front lists the game’s release date.
The links in the list above are from Price Charting, in case you are curious about individual cartridge prices. At a glance, about half are relatively popular, and most are decently valuable. Iron Commando and Legend are both pretty good SNES beat’em ups, while Water Margin was quite popular on Piko Interactive Collection 1 for Evercade when it was readily available. In fact, this collection is essentially a compilation of previously produced game releases by QUByte, which publishes titles from Piko Interactive. For example, here is Gourmet Warriors by itself, along with another Samurai Collection.
Just so you know, First Samurai is a side-scrolling action platformer, while the second one has larger sprites, but still isn’t much of a beat’em up. I don’t know about Gourmet Warriors, and Sword of Sodan is often viewed as a terrible bloody game on the Sega Genesis. People say the Amiga version is better, but that one is never included in these collections. If you’d like to know more about these games from a variety of gamers, please see this Reddit thread from r/BeatEmUps.
While the price of this repackaged collection isn’t shared on many sites, the Nintendo Switch eShop says it will be for $19.99. It will release there on July 17, 2025. As I’ve said before, no other sites list a release date or suggested retail price. The Steam page is found here.
