Today’s Friday’s Free Games has multiple puzzle and visual novel titles, along with platformers and more. Surprisingly, this is the first time in a while that I haven’t had any titles from the Epic Games Store! A lot of their items this week are add-ons for Fortnite, so I didn’t bother sharing any links to them. Even so, this week has some interesting titles so check out the list below for more details!
Of course, as I’ve been saying all week in other posts, this is my last regularly scheduled Friday’s Free Games! Starting next week, I will not be doing this series, along with my news and deals posts. Instead, I plan on primarily sharing reviews. I will discuss these changes in a future post soon.
If you’d like to check out what was a available previously, please look at this post and also here.
Note: All of the images below are from the respective game’s Steam sales page.
Chronigma (Puzzle)

As one of many puzzle games this week, here we have an overhead puzzle game where you use a time travel mechanic to solve puzzles. One aspect I like is the premise, where society develops the ability to do time travel, but that leads to our destruction! Now you have to go back in time to fix things and help us all live again. I like the pixel art, and 100% of 34 reviews are positive!
Defend the Castle (Tower Defense)

This is a Tower Defense title with a very pixelated graphical style. Thanks to the small scale of its sprites, it features a lot of enemies on the screen as they come toward your tower. After a certain number of rounds, you can upgrade your tower to help defeat your enemies the next day. It’s clear that the game has a big sense of humor; while watching the trailer I saw an obvious reference to Monty Python and the Holy Grail. The developers respond to feedback and patch the game as needed, too! 87% of 16 reviews are positive!
Gobotix: Duo (3D Puzzle)

This title stands out due to its 3D isometric perspective. It’s a Puzzle game that can be played by yourself or with someone else. In it, you control some robots who need to solve a puzzle in a room before going on to the next. !00% of 12 reviews are positive!
I Will Never Fall For My Tsundere Classmate, So I Will Just Date A Background Character Instead! (Visual Novel)

I’m including this game because I think the title of it is kind of funny! It’s a short visual novel game that has dating elements. In it, you can choose to date the main girl, or a background character that just appears as a silhouette. 100% of 37 reviews are positive!
Kino (Visual Novel)

Due to this Visual Novel title taking place in 1929, I really wanted to include it in today’s post. You play as a woman who is forced to watch a film camera of her life. While doing so, you make choices of what happens and change how her story develops. According to the Steam page, it is an extremely short game. 100% of 13 reviews are positive!
Not My War (Stealth Adventure)

Playing as a resourceful ferret, you explore an island and try to survive in this isometric stealth adventure game. You need to avoid robots that are trying to stop you. For some reason the trailer doesn’t seem to have sound effects or music. However, I like the look of the game and it seems to have some interesting gameplay mechanics. It is one of the most popular titles of the week, with 93% of 110 reviews being positive!
Palmier Island (Cozy RPG Sim)

Yay! This is another language learning game where you go to an island that your millionaire uncle supposedly lives at. Once you get there, you find out that he is actually a million dollars in debt and you need to help pay it back! Oh, and everyone on the island speaks French! As you play the game you learn some of the language and take part in Pokemon-style battles that use French words in them! The trailer is super charming and I really like the art style! 100% of 16 reviews are positive!
Pigment (Action Platformer)

Color has gone away from the world, and its your job to bring it back in this action platformer! The art style in this one is lovely, and I liked how the trailer looked a ton. 100% of 43 reviews are positive!
Ten Deadly Games: Jamsepticeye (Multiple Genres)

I think this may be one of the more intriguing games of the week. it’s actually a collection of 10 titles that were made for a game jam. Each one was developed during a 7-day period by 10 different developers. As one would expect, each title is a different genre, but they all share the same theme of “Death is an opportunity.” 85% of 21 reviews are positive!
Tiny Crate (Action Puzzle)

This is a puzzle action game where you’re a little guy who takes crates and throws them on top of each other so he can make it to the exit of the level. One neat aspect of the control is that you can pick up a box, throw it, and then fling yourself across the room to land on the box again. This allows you to avoid spikes and other hazards. I really find the graphics and sound design to be rather charming, even if they seem fitting for an old retro computer system. 96% of 26 reviews are positive!
Your Very Last Words (Interactive Fiction)

This game is about a person who has been captured in the Mexican Revolution and is about to face a firing squad. For the last 10 minutes of this person’s life, you’re able to choose his last words before death. With its black and white look, this game has an intriguing appearance about it. 93% of 15 reviews are positive!
