Today is Halloween in much of the world, so obviously a ton of the games this week are horror-related. Just like last week! Still, today also has multiple platformers, top-down shooters, and games related to typing, somehow.

Note: All of the images below are from the respective game’s Steam sales page.

an unplayable game?! (Puzzle Platformer)

an unplayable game?!

Well, the trailer for this makes it look like a 2D platformer, but it’s actually a game about accessibility settings in video games. I mean, how would you play a video game if you couldn’t press a button on the controller? It also has developer commentary after you beat it, too! 93% of 29 reviews are positive!

Bendy and the Ink Machine (First-person Horror)

Bendy and the Ink Machine

The first of two horror games from the Epic Games Store this week!

Darkenstein 3D (First-person Shooter)

Darkenstein 3D

If there’s anything you need to know about this game, it’s that it’s a love letter to classic first-person shooters like Wolfenstein 3D and Doom. But it also has some modern enhancements as well. It’s bloody and very popular! 89% of 437 reviews are positive!

Days Without Incident (First-person Horror)

Days Without Incident

One of many first-person horror titles available this week. This one takes place in an abandoned metalworks factory that has had multiple deaths (or other unusual events) in the past. You’re there to investigate what happened. 96% of 132 reviews are positive!

[Don’t] Let Go (Emotional 3D Adventure)

[Don't] Let Go

Those who enjoy atmospheric sound and art design may want to check out this game. It’s a 3D Adventure title with puzzle elements. The trailer for it doesn’t show a lot of gameplay, but then again, the artistic aspects seem fascinating!

DriveWave (Typing Productivity)

DriveWave

Do you like cool cars and want motivation to type faster? This is a productivity app where as you type you make it so that the car on the screen drives down the road faster. 92% of 26 reviews are positive!

Duelyst: Blitz (Card Battler)

Duelyst Blitz

Fans of the Duelist card game may want to try this one out. It’s a PvP card battler that looks like it’s pretty cool and very fast paced.

Five Nights at Freddy’s: Into the Pit (Pixel Art Horror)

Five Nights at Freddy's Into the Pit

This is the second horror game from the Epic Games Store this week. It is extremely popular!

FOR GOD’S SAKE, HELP HIM! (Psychological Experience)

FOR GOD'S SAKE, HELP HIM!

This is a surrealistic artsy kind of game, if you can call it that. Both you and another character are trapped in a void and one of you is repeatedly being crushed by a large object. It’s your job to try and help the other person and stop his suffering, if you can. 95% of 24 reviews are positive!

Game for Aliens (Top-down Shooter)

Game for Aliens

This game has a surprisingly neat Jazzy soundtrack! It’s an overhead action roguelike, but your character is shooting her gun at enemies from the corner of the screen instead of being near the center. It looks pretty cool! 84% of 13 reviews are positive!

Gromopoli (Boardgame)

Gromopoli

As one of the rare multiplayer-focused games here on Friday’s Free Games,  this is an online board game. It can be played in teams or individually. It seems a lot like Monopoly. 82% of 176 reviews are positive!

the hardest game in the universe 2 (Precision Platformer)

the hardest game in the universe 2

Wow! This totally looks like an extremely difficult game, as indicated by its title and trailer. The music is very cool from what I saw, and it also has a lot of varied art styles which is neat. I wonder if it is like Super Meat Boy. 83% of 12 reviews are positive!

Lady Umbrella (3D Action Adventure)

Lady Umbrella

Well, I’m going to start this somewhat negatively by saying that the voice acting in this game’s trailer isn’t too impressive. However, I still think it shows a lot of promise. As is indicated by the title, you are obviously a lady who has a special gun that can be used as an umbrella. Not that its primary purpose is to stop the rain. Instead, you use it to get past obstacles and the like. It’s a 3D action adventure title. 80% of 31 reviews are positive!

Mobile Murder Mystery (Visual Novel)

Mobile Murder Mystery

This is a visual novel game where the life of the main character falls apart after a coworker quits unexpectedly. Even though the trailer doesn’t show a lot of characters, I like the pixel art quite a bit and find it intriguing! It reminds me of early Super Famicom Visual Novels.

ONE IN THE BACK (Point & Click Puzzle)

ONE IN THE BACK

What’s impressed me about this game is its weird psychedelic art style. It’s a point & click puzzle game. Plus, the music in the trailer makes me curious about it. 98% of 68 reviews are positive!

Pieceful Gallery (Jigsaw Puzzle)

Pieceful Gallery

To help balance out the titles this week, here’s a virtual jigsaw puzzle game that features some nice high-quality artwork. It is just what it says it is. You put a jigsaw puzzle together, but do it on a computer.

The Roach Hotel (Survival Horror)

The Roach Hotel

The aspect that really stands out for this first-person horror title is that you view the game from the perspective of a VHS tape. Also, the notion of the game taking place in the 1990’s is very prevalent in the trailer. 88% of 36 reviews are positive!

ScrapBots (First-person Beat’em Up)

ScrapBots

I think this is a pretty neat idea! It’s a first-person beat’em up where you are a robot on a trash dump planet. After beating enemies, you take their body parts and put them on yourself to augment your abilities. It’s a student project and looks pretty cool!

Sunday School (Psychological Horror)

Sunday School

This is a creepy looking horror game where you are trapped in Sunday School. I’m including it because the art style is so unique. It looks like it is drawn by a three-year-old. 76% of 13 reviews are positive!

TERPENIE (Walking Simulator Horror)

TERPENIE

Yet another first-person horror game, but this one has elements of a Walking Simulator. It takes place in a post-Soviet world where you seem to be doing mundane tasks at your apartment. Some examples include cleaning your room and cooking. However, the sales page mentions a maniac coming for you. 80% of 45 reviews are positive!

Vacubot (Top-down Shooter)

Vacubot

The reason why I’m including this game is because I really like the sound effects in the trailer. it’s a top-down shooter with pixel artwork and a futuristic aesthetic.

V.START (Action Platformer)

V.START

Although it doesn’t look like one, this game still reminds me of a SEGA Genesis title for some reason. Apparently, a virus has infected a computer from 1995 and you need to defeat what has infected it. It features at least four unique zones and multiple playable characters. It also has various gameplay mechanics such as hacking into computers and fighting bosses. I also like the music in the trailer!

Word Quest (Typing)

Word Quest

Those who want to test out their typing ability may find value in checking out this one. In it, you need to purchase spells that are used by typing words on the keyboard. According to the trailer it is fast paced, and I kind of like the art style of it as well! 100% of 18 reviews are positive!
