Today’s news may not be the most exciting, but it still has some quality games mentioned! The reason why the excitement may not be there is because all the games are currently available, but the way you buy them is changing.
Briefly stated, the games impacted include Final Fantasy VII and VIII, and Final Fantasy IX on Nintendo Switch 1. The original version of System Shock 2, and Real Bout Fatal Fury 2: The Newcomers.
Final Fantasy VII, VIII, and IX Physical Availability in North America

While this may not sound like news to some, I still want to share that the dual cart of Final Fantasy VII and VIII, and also Final Fantasy IX, are finally coming to the Nintendo Switch 1 physically in North America. These are two releases that have been available in Asia for a long time, but only at the Nintendo eShop in North America. That changes on December 9, 2025!
As announced on Final Fantasy’s official X Account, a recent post from them reads, “Play three classic adventures anytime, anywhere: Final Fantasy VII, VIII, and IX are launching physically on Nintendo Switch in North America from December 9th, 2025!

Final Fantasy IX: http://sqex.link/781b76“
A full link to the post can be found here.
On a related note, the Square Enix Store page for Final Fantasy VII and VIII Twin Pack says that “FINAL FANTASY VII & FINAL FANTASY VIII Remastered Twin-Pack comes in a single cartridge with no download required.” The reason why this matters is because sometimes only one game in a collection is on a cart, and the other needs to be downloaded.

Original System Shock 2 Delisted From Steam

In other news, a recent announcement on Steam has stated that the original version of System Shock 2 is no longer be available for purchase. Thankfully, the original version of the game will still be available if you purchase the 25th Anniversary Remaster of the game.
The full announcement reads,
“System Shock 2 (1999) will be delisted from PC platforms on October 10, 2025.
Existing owners of System Shock 2 (1999) will still be able to re-download and play it from their library, but new users will no longer be able to purchase System Shock 2 (1999) as a standalone product.
At the time of delisting, System Shock 2 (1999) will be made available with the purchase of System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster. Both new and existing owners of System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster will be able to access System Shock 2 (1999) from their library at no additional cost.

Real Bout Fatal Fury 2: The Newcomers Released on Steam

Our last piece of news is that Real Bout Fatal Fury 2: The Newcomers was released on Steam at the end of September! It is one of the most popular titles in the series, and Steam’s current retail price for it is $19.99.
Considering that nearly $20 is a good chunk of change, be aware that the Steam version has these enhancements,
- Rollback netcode,
- Online lobbies for up to 9 players,
- Multiple modes for online play such as Single Elimination, Double Elimination, and Round Robin,
- A Practice Mode with lots of options including a hitbox viewer, and
- Gallery Mode with 59 pieces of media.
Now, I know that some may not want to pay $19.99 for the game, so here are some other legal ways to buy it:
- Humble Bundle has a DRM-free version of the game currently available for $4.99. This is not the Steam version and runs in a poor emulator.
- Humble Bundle also has a NeoGeo Classic Complete Collection that includes the game and a lot of others, but uses the same poor emulator I just mentioned. It has 23 games for $39.99.
- The Nintendo eShop has a Nintendo Switch 1 version of the game available for $7.99.
- Finally, the Nintendo Switch 1 will be getting a physical collection in Asian regions that includes the game and nine others on December 18, 2025. It currently has a preorder price of $39.99.
On a related note, I’ve also prepared a guide that lists the games in all 10 volumes of the ACA Neo Geo Selection series for the Nintendo Switch 1.
