This week’s free games are filled with good showings from a variety of genres! In fact, this week has multiple platformers, along with some FPS titles, visual novels, and more casual releases! Hopefully you’ll find something that strikes your fancy!
Note: All of the images below are from the respective game’s Steam sales page.
Apples in the Abyss (Puzzle Platformer)

Wow! What a way to start the week’s list of games! Apples in the Abyss is a puzzle platformer where you bend and rotate space to get the apples in the stage. It seems really weird, and maybe a bit difficult to play, but then again maybe because I don’t play this style of game often. According to the game’s description this is a passion project from the developer, so I definitely want to support it!
As expected of the Demon Lord (Casual Simulation)

As one of the more funny looking titles, this is a simple little game where you play as a Demon Lord trying to manage a dungeon. You do this from a side-view perspective where your minions come to you and ask you favors. You say yes or no to their request, and at the end of the day you get additional minions, gold, and the like based on the decisions you’ve made. It seems like a pretty casual Choose-Your-Own-Adventure game. I like the artwork, too.
Average Routine (JRPG)

This is a turn-based RPG with an anime aesthetic. It doesn’t seem to take itself very seriously, with characters going around in school with swords and attacking other characters. There are upgrade options for your characters and there’s a multiplayer component to the game as well. Even though I don’t discuss multiplayer games very often I really like the attitude of this game!
Bait & Tackle (Fishing Fighting)

How do you have a game that combines fishing with boss battles against sea creatures? I have no idea! Yet, that’s what you do in this title. I kind of like the look of it along with the music as shown in the trailer. It seems pretty absurd and really entertaining. 96% of 25 review are positive!
Bouncemasters (Casual Arcade)

For those looking for a silly arcade title, here you bash a penguin with a bat to try and make it fly around the globe. All the while it bounces on objects and does silly animations as it smashes all over the place! It looks to be fun casual entertainment. 90% of 140 reviews are positive!
Cry Of Monster (Action-Adventure Horror)

This is a side view action-adventure game where you play as a girl who lives in a city that’s been infected with the a strange virus. One of your friends has gone missing and you’re trying to find her. All the while you’re hoping to survive against a bunch of monsters. I like the world building as shown in the trailer quite a bit!
Gravity Circuit (Action Platformer)

One of two free items from the Epic Games Store this week. This is a side-view action platformer with cool pixel art. It’s very popular!
By the way, the 2nd freebie for the week is the Rogue Journeyman Bundle for Albion Online. You can get it here.
HowlKraul (Dungeon Crawler)

One thing I like about this title is the pixel artwork! it’s a Dungeon Crawler where you play as one of many wizards and try to get as far as you can before dying. 100% of 10 reviews are positive!
Hydropawnics (Puzzle Platformer)

This is a puzzle platformer where you play as a cat in space who needs to go through rooms and fix generators. The game has a pretty neat art style and the camera is angled at a slant, which is interesting. 100% of 8 reviews are positive!
Juvenate (Action Platformer)

This is a 2.5D action-adventure title that changes perspective depending on where you are in the game. Sometimes it is overhead and other times it is side view, and more. it has exploration and metroidvania elements and I like the art style quite a bit! it’s a title developed by 8 students at Savannah College of Art and Design.
My Silly Science Summer in the Past (Visual Novel)

Well, a lot of visual novel titles are aimed at boys, but this one is specifically for girls! It’s about some girls who are at a science summer camp who end up traveling in the past and blowing some stuff up! There isn’t any romance in the title, with it being more focused on the characters’ friendships. I liked the music and art style in the game’s trailer. It uses AI-generated content at times with a full list available in the game. 100% of 9 reviews are positive!
Not Raised By Wolves (Third-person Shooter)

This is one of the coolest looking games for the week! It’s a third-person action shooter where some cubs have been stolen and you need to rescue them. It makes me think of the PS2 in graphics quality. In regard to sounds, it has a number of different quips that are said as you play the game, which adds to the game’s personality. It is one of the highest-rated games for the week, with 98% of 64 reviews being positive!
Prism of You (Casual Simulation)

Those looking to explore their emotions may find something of value in this game. It’s a simulation sandbox title where you explore an alien world with different creatures representing different emotions. It sounds interesting!
Prosrochennyy (Visual Novel)

I don’t think many people will be interested in the title, but for the few that will, be aware that this is a visual novel that explores dissociation, eating disorders, and abandonment. I appreciate the topics it mentions!
Sawmania (Action Defense)

For those looking for a quick little arcade fun this is worth considering! In this game you take your saw and attack enemies that are coming down the screen to your base. I like the pixel art a good deal, and there’s also quite a bit of gameplay mechanics to keep things fresh. For example, you can you can unlock new temporary power ups and there is a survival mode for the game as well.
Full disclosure: I was given early access to this game so I could playtest it and provide feedback to the developers.
Spray N’ Pray (Boomer Shooter)

This is one of the more artistically impressive FPS games for the week! In it, you are in a cathedral that is overrun with demons. It’s very bloody and gory, but also impressive! 97% of 40 reviews are positive!
Sprite’s City Scramble (3D Platformer)

One of multiple 3D Platformers available for this week. With this one you are an alien who takes over the body of different animals, such as cats and birds. Then you use them to explore the city and collect items. I like the art style!
Surrelia Adventures (3D Platformer)

This reminds me of some other co-op games. However, this is a 3D Platformer where one player controls two different characters. Each has different abilities that you need to utilize to make it through the various environments. I really like the art style and also the music in the trailer. It looks pretty charming!
Sync Or Sink (Co-op Horror)

This is a co-op action horror game that takes place on a submarine that is sinking. You talk with your fellow partner on the boat through a set of walkie-talkies. You need to do so to solve puzzles and survive. 94% of 19 reviews are positive!
Tiempo (Action Platformer)

If you want a bit of time-control mechanics along with exploring of a clock tower in your 3D Platformers, this is the game for you! It has a really neat art style and people seem to really like it. 94% of 19 reviews are positive!
The Trench (Horror Walking Simulator)

This is a first-person Walking Simulator horror game taking place after World War 1. Back then, you were stationed in a trench and now you’ve returned to it. The goal is to uncover the truth of what happened there and move on from the past. The look it isn’t very distinctive for horror titles, but I like the premise behind it!
Tricks, Treats and Mirrors – An EoG Side Story (Visual Novel)

Another Visual Novel for the week with nice artwork. It seems to take place during Halloween where there’s a few girls who are out trick or treating. You help make decisions, but what you decide could make things go really bad!
Unknown Fluffy Object (3D Puzzle)

This is one of the funniest looking trailers that I have seen this week! In it you play as a sheepdog who needs to protect the sheep from a UFO. The game’s actually a 3D puzzler with a lot of character! It was hilarious watching the sheepdog use his super bark to help the sheep fly in the air to cross the river or play basketball. 100% of 25 reviews are positive!
Upload Labs (Automation Simulation)

While this game has some aspects of an idle title, I still thought the trailer was interesting. You get to design a computer system from the ground up and solve problems as you put it together. You place panels and connect nodes between different computer systems or components. This allows your computer do different things such as virus scans. With 82% of its 233 reviews being positive, it has a lot of fans!
