For today’s free games, we have a variety of FPS titles (including Borderlands 2 up to Sunday!), platformers, different types of adventures, and more. Plus, a dark dungeon crawler RPG, a truck simulation, and a boomer shooter that reminds me of Doom. There’s even a game that is a pomodoro timer for study!

Of course, all of the images shown below are from the game’s respective Steam sales page.

That said, let’s get going!

Aesop Rock’s Black Hole Superette Experience (Casual Exploration)

Aesop Rock's Black Hole Superette Experience

I don’t know how this developer has made going to a convenience store seem interesting, but they’ve done it! It seems to be a collectathon game where you’re trying to acquire different trinkets or Easter eggs throughout the store. All with the backdrop of a hip hop music style. The graphics design is really cool and it has 48 reviews thus far.

Alchemist: Journey of the Soul Prologue (3D Adventure)

Alchemist: Journey of the Soul Prologue

With some pretty good music, Alchemist: Journey of the Soul Prologue is a 3D adventure game with puzzle elements where you are exploring through a mansion. It also includes some neat traversal options, such as something like a grappling hook to get from one place to another. I like what I saw in the trailer!

Borderlands 2 (FPS)

Borderlands 2

The previously extremely popular and violent first-person shooter is currently free for a few days at the game’s Steam page. Pick it up before the morning of June 8th if you want it for free!

Cardboard Hero (3D Action-adventure Platformer)

Cardboard Hero

I typically like it whenever games focus on the concept of make-believe as a child. This one is a 3D action-adventure platformer where you are a hero that is a piece of cardboard that’s been drawn by a kid. The trailer is a lot of fun with a child-like narrator, talking about bedtimes and fighting monsters. I think it looks really great!

Chasing the Universe (First-person Platformer)

Chasing the Universe

This is a really neat looking first-person platformer! You slide and teleport as you make your way down the path to pick up stars to the beat of a really cool vocal soundtrack.

Daily Chthonicle: Editor’s Edition (Adventure and Simulation)

Daily Chthonicle: Editor's Edition

If you’ve ever wanted to be a newspaper editor, with large dose of the supernatural and occult to go along with it, then you may want to check into this title. It is a simulation game with adventure elements featuring a great noir art style. It is available for free at Indie Gala. Sadly, this game is no longer free at Indie Gala as of June 7, 2025.

DEATHLOOP (FPS)

DEATHLOOP

For fans of violent first-person shooters, here is the first free game from the Epic Games Store for the week. It has a neat time loop mechanic, and it is obviously not for me. Some of you may want to pick it up.

The Falling Star (Walking Simulator)

The Falling Star

Our memories about our loved ones are really important, and how they lived impact us long after they have passed away. That seems to be part of the concept conveyed in The Falling Star, which is a first person walking simulator where a girl journeys through some sort of dream world while reminiscing about her mother. The art style seems pretty neat with how  the words to the story are floating in the sky as you walk around.

Fisher Man (Cozy Fishing Sim)

Fisher Man

If you’re interested in a pretty relaxing first-person fishing game with flat-shaded polygons and chill music, then this is the game for you. I liked the trailer, and thought it was nice and pleasant.

Hellslave (Dungeon Crawler RPG)

Hellslave

OK, so this wouldn’t be my choice of a RPG to play; it is way darker than most. Yet, I can say that it seems to be one with an impressive number of gameplay concepts going on and a variety of different options for character customization. It is regarded in a very positive light with over 1,000 reviews and the art style is impressive! Just don’t expect me to play it, but I hope that my readers enjoy it!

MeowFall (Precision Platformer)

MeowFall

As I was watching the trailer for the MeowFall, I couldn’t help but chuckle and laugh a little bit at some of the animations! It’s a difficult 2D precision platformer where you control a cat who is trying to get new hats. All the while avoiding the multitude of traps that are in the way of the goal. It does seem quite difficult with the trailer showing a lot of dangerous traps that you have to deal with. Those who enjoy challenging platformers will hopefully enjoy it!

The New Flesh (Surreal Walking Simulator?)

The New Flesh

I am not sure what this game is, it might be a walking simulator, but what really strikes me about it is its visual design. I’m amazed that the game doesn’t have the tag of horror, and if you want really bizarre worlds to explore as you pick up trinkets, then you gotta check it out. I couldn’t take my eyes away from the craziness of the trailer! It has over 330 reviews, 99% of which are positive!

Numbra (3D Action-adventure Puzzle)

Numbra

Wow! For free games, this is a big hit right now! It is a 3D action-adventure puzzle game that has a great sense of style and dread. Basically, you seem to be running away from a beast whose head is like a giant light with an X on it who is seeking you out. It seems really creepy, has over 120 reviews thus far, and it is very positively rated!

Obgoose (Puzzle)

Obgoose

This is a minimalistic, cute little word puzzle game that is similar to Scrabble. It seems kind of chill and I think casual players who like word games may enjoy it. I like the goose in it!

Ogu and the Secret Forest (Overhead Action Adventure)

Ogu and the Secret Forest

Ogu and the Secret Forest is one of two free games that is available from the Epic Games Store this week. It is an overhead action adventure puzzle game with hand drawn characters and a really neat sense of style. It looks like a lot of fun and seems entertaining. It is rated as very positive on Steam, and so it is probably a great choice to pick up for fans of the genre!

Parallel (Horror Adventure)

Parallel

Well, this game doesn’t seem to really stand out in the first person horror genre, but I do like the premise of it taking place on an abandoned space station where you have to find out what happened to all the people. I also appreciate the sound design in the trailer.

Prisonela MD (Platformer)

Prisonela MD

After watching the trailer I really had the impression that this could be really good for people who are focused on gameplay. Especially those who enjoy single screen platformers with a focus on speed and collectathon aspects. I liked the music quite a bit, although the sound effect for collecting coins didn’t seem too satisfying to me. Plus I liked the art design and thought it was neat to be in the style of a Mega Drive or Genesis game.

Protocol Nadir (Horror Adventure)

Protocol Nadir

Trapped in a room, you seek to escape and go through a series of procedurally generated locations trying to get to the top of the facility. It seems to have some pretty good audio design and people who actually pick up the flashlight near the beginning seem to enjoy it. It also includes multiple endings, which is a nice touch.

redroom (One-on-one FPS)

redroom

If there’s anything I can say about redroom, it’s that it’s a game that knows exactly what it wants to be! That being a minimalistic, straightforward, fast paced, one-on-one first person shooter. Practically everything can be customized in it, and the developer is so serious about its design that the menu system is actually a terminal command-screen. It looks like DOS! That’s seriously hardcore! The concept for it seems really incredible and I hope it finds an audience that appreciates it.

Ruyn HD (Boomer Shooter)

Ruyn HD

OK. I’ll just say that this game’s trailer got me interested in it in about 5 seconds. It’s an update of a FPS that reminds me of Doom or Wolfenstein 3D, but with polygonal rooms and layouts. The music is really rocking and I appreciated the beginning of the trailer of where it says it doesn’t have skill trees, exp, or rogue this or that nonsense. I thought that it was funny that it has attitude. Plus, level editors are included. It doesn’t have many reviews yet, but they are 100% positive!

Study Arcade (Pomodoro Timer and Arcade)

Study Arcade

The pomodoro method of study involves doing a concentrated amount of effort toward a task for about 25 minutes and then taking a break thereafter. You then repeat the cycle repeatedly, and by the end of the day you will have completed more work in the day than you would have done otherwise. In this game, 25 minutes are spent with a timer for you to focus on your studies. Once the timer rings, you can then play some retro-style arcade games that are built into it! These often look like Atari 2600, but with a bit better resolution. The idea sounds fabulous and really exciting to try!

Truck World: Australia – First Haul (Truck Sim)

Truck World: Australia - First Haul

Fans of American Truck Simulator or Euro Truck Simulator 2 may want to try this game out especially if you’ve ever wanted to drive in Australia. Apparently, this has been in development for multiple years and a good deal of progress has been made during that time. The trailer shows off some good atmosphere, what it offers to players, and some of the things you can modify in it. The game has over 400 mostly positive reviews!

UNI-CODE (Platformer Shooter)

UNI-CODE

Admittedly, this game seems really absurd, but it also has some stuff about it that seems really funny and endearing looking. After all, you play as a unicorn in a single screen platformer where letters of the alphabet are shooting bullets at you and you shoot upward to attack them. All the while you can get power ups and dash around the screen as you try to avoid their attacks. There’s just something about it that makes me want to try it, and share it with you all.

Ventomori (Co-op 3D Puzzle Adventure)

Ventomori

This is another game with really impressive visual design. It’s a first person 3D puzzle adventure game that is supposed to be an asymmetrical co-op title. I don’t know if you can play the game in a single player mode, but you are to explore a planet and discover its secrets. It seemed like a really original idea!

Yap Wizards Tower Defence (Tower Defense)

Yap Wizards Tower Defence

For those who enjoy 8-bit pixel art, comedy, and tower defense in their games, this will probably be a good one to check out! You’re are trying to stop a horde of gnoblins who are coming toward you. Use cannons and other weapons to defeat them. The trailer for the game is really funny and absurd, and it’s one of the big reasons why I wanted to share this game with you. It also seems to have social commentary of some sort. 96% of the 33 reviews are positive!

WORLD EATER (3D Action)

WORLD EATER

If you just want to take on a boss with multiple phases in the 3D action title, WORLD EATER might be worth trying out. In it, there is a giant space worm that is trying to defeat you and you have to use your skills and weapons to defeat it. According to the tags for the game, it has a comedy or humorous edge to it which may make it more interesting. It makes me think of the 2D boss-battle game, Furi Demake – The Chain that was mentioned in a previous Friday’s Free Games!

Zenith Realms (Exploration Puzzle Adventure)

Zenith Realms

Atmosphere and music style mean a lot in video games, and helps set the tone for what we’re playing. That’s the concept that I thought about while I was watching the trailer for this title. It is an overhead puzzle adventure game where you solve environmental puzzles and interact with the world to progress. It seems to have a really nice relaxing tone to it.
