We’re back to Friday again, and this time there are four casual titles with simple aesthetics, various action and adventure titles, and a few other unusual titles with a more educational focus. What will you find to play this weekend?
As is now the custom, here are the major categories for this week,
Casual

This is a casual, two-player-only game of American football, but when you are tackled you die. It’s designed to be played by friends when you’re waiting for your pizza to get to your house. I like the art style.

A Minimalistic, casual logic puzzle game. It features puzzles of different types based on going down certain paths to numbers or shapes in a certain way. While a little incomplete, I hope the developer is successful in making a quality game!

A short 2D platformer with 3 characters and 1 stage for each. I really like the artwork for the story scenes, and it seems really charming! Because of that, I’ve put two images up for this title.

A pretty chill fishing simulation with simple graphics but it looks kind of fun!
Action

This is probably the most exciting game available this week. It’s over at the Epic Games Store, and is a great beat’em up in the world of River City Ransom! If anything, just watch the fun intro that kicks butt!

This is a shooter featuring retro aesthetics, a shop for obtaining power ups, and some sort of platforming mechanic. I like the trailer for this one quite a bit!

Very bizarre game. You seem to be piloting a machine that behaves like a centipede that crawls around and fight other centipede machines. Pressing certain buttons fires attacks from your body toward the enemy. Destroy the terrain like Team 17’s Worms games to reach your foe, or go behind structures to avoid attacks. Seems super original, but with difficult controls. It has some of the most reviews I’ve seen for a new game.

The witchball is a mystical barrier that safeguards sleeping residents in town, but during the night, creatures appear trying to shatter it. It your job to protect this barrier so that citizens of the town don’t fall into an eternal darkness in this 3D Action Adventure.
Adventure and One RPG

A 30-minute narrative third-person adventure game that is designed to teach players how to refuse taking drugs from others and the dangers of drug abuse and addiction. The message seems really positive and I hope it helps people!

Spending time with people over dinner is nice, right? Not in this creepy psychological horror game! People really seem to like it, and even say it is an underrated gem!

Trapped in a digital world with a rogue computer program seeking you out, activate beacons to open the escape hatch before it hunts you down. Features co-op gameplay and hacking mini-games.

This is an action RPG with all the “boring grind” torn out of it! It just has boss fights, and seems to have a lot of comedy. I think the reviewers are friends of the developers; pretty much all of them just crack jokes about the game!
Strategy

Have you ever wanted to fight back against your bully? Hopefully you never had one, but if you did, now you can deal with ‘em by doing awesome tricks and casting mystic spells with your magic yo-yo. I kind of like the art style in this one. It seems to be a turn-based strategy game with a third-person over the shoulder perspective.

This is a tower-defense game where you place buildings in preparation for a big monster, a titan, to come and attack the land. As you earn gold from your structures, you use the funds to prepare for the next round, with the hope of defeating the beast. It also features co-op gameplay and retro pixel art.
Other

A first-person 3D sci-fi puzzle game where you keep unlocking doors by meeting various criteria. Surprisingly, I liked how the trailer showed someone trying to figure out how the game worked while playing it.

An extremely short side-scrolling walking simulator where you play as a knight who died in battle and is trying to keep his oath to his king after death. It can be completed in 5 minutes. Seems to be an intriguing experience! And yes, it is worth playing. Check out my review for more details!

An educational experience where you travel through museums around the world from a first-person perspective in a 3D environment. According to the sales page, it attempts to be historically accurate and explores both positive and negative aspects of human history. I like the concept!

PY-ONNERS is a side-scrolling platformer that is designed to help reinforce Python programming principles. On the surface, that seems really boring, but I like the art style and the educational aspect is exciting for those who want to dab their feet into programming. I think it is a really cool idea!

A short narrative experience that is heavy on atmosphere. Not exactly horror, but an intriguing work of interactive fiction nonetheless.
Conclusion
For this week, off the top of my head, except for Epic’s best freebie this week, I cannot think of one particular title that I’m overly excited about over the others. Instead, I find certain categories more surprising than usual. For instance, the casual category has a greater diversity of games than normal. Additionally, three of the games, The Bright Path, Museums of History, and PY-ONNERS seem to be more focused on providing a more “teaching” kind of experience rather than just being a game. I hope they all end up being quality releases and help people out there!
What did you think? Are there any games that you are going to play? Let us know in the comments below. Thanks for reading!
