Friday’s Free Games! A Walking Simulator of Machu Picchu, Four Action Games, and More!

For out fifth Friday’s Free Games, the genre with the most representation is action or overhead shooters. Still, for comedy, the parody of Dragon Ball and a cats versus dogs RPG may be the funnest for many!

Here is what we have available for this week, although to be honest, many of the genres don’t have too many titles this time,

Casual

Pawfish Bay

Pawfish Bay

A sweet-looking farming and fishing sim with pixel artwork.

Action

Anchor: Quest for Atlantis

Anchor: Quest for Atlantis

This is an isometric action game with metroidvania elements. The reviews are quite positive and people praise it for its atmosphere. I am curious about it!

Etherburn

Etherburn

This is a Souls-like action-adventure title by a very small team of student developers.  I’m putting it here because it seems pretty good, even if some of it feels “off.”

Poly

Poly

Poly is a roguelike shooter that has simplistic graphics but it’s also found a pretty good audience quickly. I kind of dig it, but note, the developer has made a final update the game and will not be working on it further. I wrote a review of this game if you want to know more. Please check it out!

Zal vs May

Zal vs. May

Zal vs May is a top-down shooter with collectathon aspects and traps to avoid on different levels. It seems kind of slow methodical, but I find it intriguing. Maybe it is because it reminds me of Bangai-O, even though I am sure the gameplay is different between the two titles.

RPG

The Balldragon

The Balldragon

A short 10-minute RPG that parodies everyone’s favorite Japanese anime. From the preview images, it is clear that it has quite a bit of cussing. I did end up playing this game and wrote a review of it. Check it out if you want to know what I thought!

Cat Quest II

Cat Quest 2

This is the Action RPG sequel to Cat Quest that was available for free a week or two ago. It’s very popular and quite possibly a good one to pick up. It is on the Epic Games Store.

The Meowfficer

The Meowfficer

It’s a bit bloody, but I really like the artwork in this action RPG. I’d like to what happens in the conflict between cats and the dogs!

Strategy

Echoes of the Architects: Prologue

Echoes of the Architects: Prologue

This is a real-time-strategy game where you design and program your own units. I like the concept of the programming combined with RTS gameplay. It reminds me of the cult-classic, Carnage Heart on the PS1 (this link is to a longplay).

Other

Bell Bot

Bell Bot

Bell Bot is where you play as a food delivery robot trying to get to college students who want to buy your food ASAP. The preview video makes me think of Crazy Taxi, but you seem to be delivering food orders instead.

Dere Quartet

Dere Quartet

A romantic visual novel that uses a mix of hand-made and AI-generated assets. This one doesn’t seem to be too risque so I am including it here. In case you are wondering why I include VN games, it is because I want to explore the genre some.

The Lost Condor

The Lost Condor

I haven’t played any walking simulators, but this one seems fascinating because here you are exploring Machu Picchu, the ancient city of Peru. It looks amazing, and it is available on Itch.io.

Conclusion

This is one of the first Friday’s Free Games where I have tried to curate the games a bit more. In previous versions of this post, there were a few other titles that I had in the list, but later removed them because the quality didn’t seem to be good enough. I added a few of the above games to my library on Steam, but remarkably, the one I am most interested in is The Lost Condor. I’m hoping that in due time I will be able to start reviewing some of these games, and others, to be able to give them greater limelight. I also hope that such material will flesh out the content on this blog.

What about yourselves? What are some of the games you are most interested in playing? Please let us know in the comments below! Thanks for reading!
