Welcome to another Friday, and this time Epic Games Store is offering a couple of casual titles. One is a hidden object title, with the other being a silly delivery game with ragdoll physics. Personally, what stood out for me was the concept of surreal. Two games below mention it quite a bit. And then there is a 2D platformer where you use a spork and weird stuff happens! I think the “W” titles stand out well among the crowd, too!
Note: All of the images shown below are from the game’s respective sales page on Steam.
Before you get trapped in the black lilies. (Overhead Horror)

A RPG Maker horror game where you play as a girl who is trying to escape a western-style house. It is played from an overhead perspective and there seems to be about half a dozen main characters in the game. One odd thing is that the trailer is in Japanese, yet the description of the sales page is in English. The people who have played it seem to enjoy it, partly because of the atmospheric music.
A Blocc World (Open-world RPG)

This doesn’t have too many reviews, but it has a neat look to it with voxel graphics. The game is an open world third person RPG where characters are made up of a bunch of blocks. One of the reviews says the tutorial is a bit slow, but thought the game had some good points too.
Chrono Space 7 (Roguelite Shooter)

With its minimalistic art style and combination of a couple different genres, I thought that this title looked really interesting! It’s an isometric twin stick shooter that seems like a spaceship shooter, but you only have seven minutes to beat the boss before it destroys the solar system. Along the way you level up between battles. I do like the look of it and how your ship moves around the grid. However, the music in the trailer was a bit boring.
Clean Break (Surreal Destruction)

This is a first person title where you go through a seemingly quiet house and break objects that are out of place. Technically, you can just smash everything that’s in the house. However, you’re supposed to look for objects that appear to be messed up, such as a ceiling fan where one of the blades is longer than the rest. 100% of 39 reviews are positive!
Dancing with Shadows: Prologue (Choose Your Own Adventure)

A dark Choose Your Own Adventure Story game with multiple characters that you can interact with. As you play, you can change the storyline for good or bad. The art style is quite dark, which might be something that appeals to you. It uses AI assets for some of the backgrounds. If the game is well received the developer intends to replace them with new art, which is cool.
FALLSTRUKTUR (First-person Platformer)

When I first saw this game I totally thought of the PlayStation 1. The graphics look like they are from that generation. It is a first person precision platformer where you explore a weird tube like area and try to keep yourself from falling. 98% of 126 reviews are positive!
Fishing Time (Casual Side view Fishing)

Just a chill side view fishing game that user clicker mechanics. The trailer mentions a lot of fish to catch and various cosmetics that you can earn. I like the look of it with the pixel artwork. I think some people will appreciate it!
Fourmiworld (Surreal Metroidvania)

I’ve never heard of an open-world-ant-farm-metroidvania before, but that is what this game’s description says it is! Watching the trailer was a real bizarre experience, especially with the music. However, I couldn’t help but want to share this game with you all after watching it! 94% of 18 reviews are positive!
Full Contact (Overhead Fighting)

This is an unusual overhead fighting game. The people who made the trailer seemed like they were having a lot of fun just goofing off and doing couch co-op as they played it. That’s the reason I am sharing it with you all!
Hack&Po (Card Game)

Although not immediately clear, Hack&Po is a game in the style of Rock, Paper, Scissors, but with 3D graphics and various cards that you use to attack your opponent. I think the graphics and sounds are nice, which helps it stand out. There isn’t a lot of reviews for it, but all of them are positive as of this writing!
The HELL Prologue : City Builder of the Dead

Although I have no interest in this game’s location, I cannot deny that the reviews for this game are quite positive. According to them, players appreciate that the setting has a significant impact on the gameplay mechanics. One example are the periodic boss battles against big monsters who come and attack your city. 92% of 13 reviews are positive!
Hidden Folks (Search and Find)

Ok, I must say that this has a nice sense of humor (because of the sound effects)! It’s a hidden object game that reminds me of Where’s Waldo, but in black and white. You can manipulate objects to find hidden folks in small little scenes. This is one of two free games at the Epic Games Store for the week.
Ignis Dei (First-person Puzzle Adventure)

If you’re interested in things from the far past, this is a first-person puzzle adventure game that takes place in the time of the Black Death. Specifically, in 1348. It has horror elements and reviewers say that it has a lot of symbolism. The music and artwork seems well done as well. One irritating aspect to it is that the movement is grid-based even though it looks like a first person shooter. Despite this, 100% of 10 reviews are positive!
Kimchi: A Stars in the Trash Story (Puzzle Platformer)

For those looking for a really sweet looking side-scrolling puzzle platformer, this is the one for you! It stars a cat and features pleasant animation and music. 100% of 58 reviews are positive!
iRobot Factory (Robot Programming)

Logic programming fans and people who want to build little robotic cars may find something to try here! It’s a robot designing and programming game where you train the vehicle you design to make it through obstacle courses of various types and difficulties. For me, it seems like a game for those taking place in STEM Education (Wikipedia). For those curious, I also think I am curious about this title because of enjoying the Brick Experiment Channel on YouTube.
コ、今に在り – Ko ima ni ari (Interactive Fiction)

A graphically simplistic interactive fiction game that explores losing eyesight over time. It only has one review, but the topic is unique so I thought that some people would want to explore it. I like the pixel art as well!
Psycutlery (2D Platformer)

Without a doubt, this is one of the cooler games of the week! It’s focused on being a console-style game for the PC. For some reason, you are using a living spork to destroy and eat different things in levels. At least that is some of the time, anyway. The trailer shows a variety of different gameplay mechanics and some real active music as well. I found it to be really intriguing! 100% of 18 reviews are positive!
Seamspace: Minesweeper

Over the last several weeks I’ve mentioned old-school PC games before, and so here is another. The difference is that this version of minesweeper is in 3D and takes place in space, which is kind of neat. Beyond standard difficulty settings, it also has a custom option, which is appreciated. Another reason why I am including it here is because a person reported a glitch in the game previously, and the developer was quick to fix it. Props for that!
Totally Reliable Delivery Service (Delivery Sandbox)

This is the second casual game available at the Epic Games Store for this week. It seems to be a casual delivery simulator where half the fun is finding the most absurd ways to get a package to someone. The rag doll physics may be irritating, though.
Wanderness (Nature Simulation)

Have you ever wished that you could use Google Street View in a forest and take pictures of birds? If so, that’s pretty much what this game is. As one would expect, the trailer for it is quite relaxing and has an impressive soundscape. 95% of 23 reviews are positive!
Wish Upon a Cat (Interactive Fiction)

For this week, this has some of my favorite pixel art. It looks like a SNES release! Plus, the music for the trailer is super chill and relaxing, which makes me want to try out the game. It’s actually a short little Interactive fiction game for fans of Odencat’s (the developer) earlier games. Wish Upon a Cat makes a lot of references to earlier titles from that creator. It takes about an hour to complete and 90% of 50 reviews are positive!
XETTER 2020 (Retro Puzzle)

Right off the bat, I’ll say that the music in the trailer for this game is difficult to listen to. So why did I include it here? Because it reminds me of old retro 1980’s PC games. People who enjoy older style games may like it. I actually like the graphics as well.
