Friday’s here again, a couple of big games this week are Backpack Hero and Figment, both from Epic Games Store! While there are a smaller number of titles compared to some other weeks, I find the comedic games quite exciting! There are Culinary Wizard and The RPG: My First Dungeon Smells! Scroll down below for more games to check out. I hope you find something to play!
Ampersat (Action RPG)

Language has been stolen from the village, and it is up to you, an ampersand, to bring letters of the alphabet back! While not a recent release, this is a game from a few years ago that combines concepts from multiple retro titles to make its own blend of action RPG fun! It is currently free until the morning of Sunday, July 6th.
Atuel (Walking Simulator)

One of my favorite things about video games is that it can take you places you wouldn’t be able to go to otherwise. In it, explore a surrealist dreamlike location based on the topography and wildlife of the Atuel River Valley in Argentina. That’s a cool idea! 100% of 27 reviews are positive!
Backpack Hero (Inventory Management Deckbuilder)

Why would organizing your backpack be exciting? Well, when it impacts the stats of other items while in battle it kind of matters! Along with a town-building mechanic and lots of other little features, this game seems to have a lot to it with an enjoyable pixel-art look! It is one of two free games at Epic this week!
Batta? Batta! (3D Platformer)

For some reason I didn’t hear any music when I played the trailer for this game. Even so, I still find it interesting. It is a 3D platformer that plays like a 2D title at times, but then changes perspective (which reminds me of PS1 titles). In addition, there are some story elements, and clear directions on performing moves the first time you need them (which I appreciate!). I also liked the different pictures to show the emotion of your character. 100% of 10 reviews are positive!
Bee careful! (Puzzle Platformer)

So, the trailer for this game doesn’t show a lot, but it seems to be a puzzle platformer on rectangular-shaped stages. Despite being unsure about it, I want to highlight it because all 5 of its reviews are positive. For some reason, it is said to be Family Friendly, but also has the tag of Psychological Horror.
Bird Game (JRPG)

With black and white artwork, weird abstract designs and (maybe) harpsichord music, this seems to be among the most unique games of the week! It appears to play like a JRPG, but the style makes it stand out a great deal! 88% of 26 reviews are positive, so check it out if you like what you see!
Bling: Fortune Memories (Platformer Strategy)

For some reason, this is said to be a side scrolling action-adventure game based on the tags, but the description says it is a platformer and strategy game. It takes place in an abandoned temple, and you’re going after your brother who went into it looking for treasures. To me, it looks like an overhead puzzle game with environmental hazards that reminds me of Chip’s Challenge (Wikipedia). I am hoping some people like it!
Collapse of the Midnight Sun (Overhead Metroidvania)

Those looking for a chill game may be interested in this overhead metroidvania title with a time loop mechanic. While watching the trailer, I felt like it had a rather distinctive look to it with its use of shadows and lighting. Oddly enough, it also has walking simulator as one of its tags, but it doesn’t exactly look like one.
Condo (Walking Simulator)

Since you’re having to deal with insomnia, you decide to get up and walk around, trying to find people to talk with. There’s no rush, so just find people and hear their stories in this semi-pixelated walking simulator with a bit of a noir aesthetic. It is quite positive with 95 percent positive across 40 reviews.
Culinary Wizard (2D Platformer)

I like it when games don’t take themselves very seriously, and does it well. The trailer for this game features a buff guy in a chef’s outfit and says things like “But wait… there’s more!” This is used to showcase the various recipes that can be used while tackling enemies along with various items that are available to you. All of this for free! The title just has a lighthearted tone and I really like the infomercial feel to it. It’s quite charming and fun looking!
Day of the Shell: Prologue (Tactical Roguelite)

This is a tactical game that also has roguelite elements. In the trailer, the aspect that I liked a lot was the sound design and how crisp everything seemed (if that makes any sense). This is the demo version of the game that is supposed to come out at the end of July. It looks great, with 100% of 16 reviews being positive!
Elysian Siege (2D Platformer)

With perhaps the best art direction of the week, this is a 2D side-scrolling platformer with adventure and exploration aspects. It seems like you are supposed to collect coins to reclaim your goddess’ temple along with the help of at least one ally. I really liked the look of this title, and it seems to be getting quite popular! It’s 95 percent positive across 21 reviews!
Figment (Isometric Action Adventure)

This totally charmed me the moment I saw it! With its great hand-drawn artwork, vocal song, and pleasant little animations, I really want to play this game! The character even moves like a kid (that really impressed me)! End the nightmare! It’s free on Epic this week!
First-Person Data Explorer (Data Explorer)

A weird game where you can explore your data and see it in a 3D space. I’m not sure how much of a game is in this title. Yet, I find it interesting and want to support innovation like this!
Hellkind (Overhead Horror)

An intriguing overhead horror game where you are exploring an old structure and trying to survive. While you’re doing that, you’re hearing whispers and the sound of breathing that is kind of creepy. The art style is really unique! If you can handle the mature content warning, horror fans may really like this title! 92% of 26 reviews are positive.
Realm Runner (3D Platformer)

If you like the running aspects of Sonic games, or other 3D Platformers, you might enjoy this one. In it, your character is competitor in the multiversal game show titled the Microcosm Marathon. The game has a great sense of speed in the trailer and I like the music as well. Oddly enough, you also transform into a squid-like character at times, and I don’t know why. It’s shown in the trailer.
The RPG: My First Dungeon Smells (First Person RPG)

Wow! This game looks impressive. Not the graphics, exactly, but it is obviously making fun of The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim in the trailer. Some stuff that strikes me include lots of character customization, ability to side with the monsters in the dungeon “attraction,” comedic character interactions, a funny tone to the trailer and gameplay footage, and more. It seems like a first-person open world RPG, but the characters look similar to Lego figures. 95% of 97 reviews are positive!
Sounds of Shadows (First-person Horror Adventure)

You wake up in a strange underground facility where you now have a robot body and need to escape with your life. As a first-person horror adventure game, what struck me about this is the art design. Specifically, you seem to “see” through the use of something like sonar that periodically pulses away from you at regular intervals. As it moves through the room, you can see what is around you, including the monster who wants to kill you…
Springuins (Puzzle)

A super cute overhead pixel-art puzzle game that involves two penguin-looking characters who move around in unison. You direct them in such a way that both reach specific squares to leave the area. It reminds me of the extremely popular puzzle game, Alien Cat 2 (Steam Page), which is on Evercade. I really liked the look of this game and how it showed a good deal of gameplay and the charming music. I think the developer is really on to something that could be quite popular!
Zeppelin Rush (Reverse Tower Defense)

Instead of placing cannons and turrets to keep goblins from attacking, you are the aggressors who launch airships and attack the dwarves instead! According to one of the reviews, this is a rather short game, but it also has quite a bit of personality and a fine art style. I like the concept and the tone of the game! I hope it’s good!
