For today’s news, we don’t have a ton to report, but there’s still some great info to share! Namely, Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection and R-Type Delta: HD Boosted are both coming to Steam! These are really important releases of well-regarded titles that will be great to be easily playable again.

Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection

Our first game to discuss is actually a compilation of five arcade Mortal Kombat titles. It is from the same company that brought us the Street Fighter: 30th Anniversary Collection, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection, and Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration. According to the trailer, the Kollection has,

  • Mortal Kombat
  • Mortal Kombat II
  • Mortal Kombat 3
  • Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3
  • Mortal Kombat 4

One thing that’s noteworthy about these is that the Legacy Kollection isn’t just containing the arcade games. Fan-favorite console and portable versions will also be included where available. From watching the trailer, it is clear that the Sega Game Gear and Sega Genesis versions of the first game are included. As is the Nintendo Game Boy version of Mortal Kombat II. I could not tell if any Sega Saturn, Sony PlayStation, or Gameboy Advance versions are part of the package. Nor do I know if the SNES version of Mortal Kombat, with its sweat, is included. It’s not exactly a fan-favorite, but it would be historically important to have. Finally, I want to point out that the trailer has at least 4 large question marks when showing footage from the different titles. I am curious to know what these represent.

Outside of the games themselves, the Steam sales page also mentions online play with rollback netcode, easy unlocking of all secret characters, and interactive documentaries with Ed Boon, John Tobias, Dan Forden, John Vogel, and dozens more.

Of course, the Kollection is rated M for mature audiences with frequent violence and gore present. You can find the Legacy Kollection by clicking here. As of this writing, there is no release date or suggested retail price yet.

R-Type Delta HD Boosted

Our second bit of news for the day is the announcement of R-Type Delta HD Boosted by CITY CONNECTION. This is a pretty big deal, especially since the USA version of this PlayStation 1 classic goes for over $95.00 loose according to PriceCharting.com! It’s a very popular side-scrolling shmup, and for some, it is their favorite release in the R-Type franchise. In the game’s description on Steam, it says it will have new music and razor-sharp graphics. The sales page also states that the game comes equipped with modern quality-of-life improvements. CITY CONNECTION doesn’t explicitly say what these are, but I guess that they may be a save state feature and rewind functionality. I don’t know that for sure, though.

Hopefully the input lag for this release will not be too bad since R-Type Delta was originally a PS1 title, Some Sega Saturn ports releases by CITY CONNECTION have had that problem to a significant degree. The PlayStation has been largely easy to emulate for many years, so perhaps CITY CONNECTION’s version of the game will be better because of that.

Like the previous title I mentioned, R-Type Delta HD Boosted does not have a release date or suggested retail price yet. The Steam page can be found here.
