For today’s news, we have Virtual Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. going multi-platform, some info on a couple new shmups, and an announcement of Evercade Showcase Volume 4 on its way later this week!

Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. Announced for Multiple Platforms

Although not surprising, I’m glad to report that Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. has been announced for multiple consoles! These include PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2! While the trailer doesn’t say too much, it does tell us that the title will feature cross-play support across systems and rollback netcode, both of which are great to hear! However, no release date for these latter versions have been shared yet. Of course, if you want to pick up the Steam version, it is available here.

Shmup News

In the area of shmups, two releases have had some updates. One comes from TERARIN GAMES, who has released a demo of their upcoming vertically scrolling Shmup, Blaze of Storm! It has a planned release some time in Q4 of 2025. Additionally, Steam Deck compatibility has been confirmed by the developer, and also by a fellow shmupper, retrocalypse. I’ll be looking forward to its release!

This past week also saw the release of a new overhead twin-stick shooter, Galaxy Highways! It features some really sweet pixel art with a diverse color palette and fun explosion effects. As highlighted in the trailer, the game includes a lot of upgrade options for your ships that can be purchased between missions. It also has a cool rock and synth soundtrack! As of this writing, the game has 30 reviews with 100% of them being positive. The game’s regular retail price is $9.99.

Evercade Showcase Volume 4

Last week, Blaze announced their next big showcase for their Evercade family of products. It’s happening on Thursday, May 29, and will take place at 8 pm UK time. That’s also 9 pm in the EU, 3 pm in the Eastern time zone for the USA, and noon Pacific. Hopefully it will be as good, or better, than the Evercade Showcase Volume 3 that happened at the end of March, 2025. The big highlight of that one was multiple Neo Geo and SNK-related announcements, which I reported on here. I will do my best to share my thoughts on Showcase #4 sometime after May 30th. Please come back to read it when I am done with it!
