Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Battle Destiny Remastered Releases on May 21

We’re starting off today’s news with info on one of two games. The first being Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Battle Destiny Remastered which is a revamped version of a game that came out for the PS Vita in 2012. In it, you can pilot over 100 mobile suits as you complete battles based on events from the Gundam SEED and Gundam SEED Destiny anime shows. The game features a variety of missions and the ability to tune up your suits with a redesigned UI. According to the sales page, the title also has new lock-on modes and controller settings.

If you want to preorder the title, the best current price is $32.99 at WinGameStore for a Steam key. Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Battle Destiny Remastered will also be released on Nintendo Switch. It comes out on Wednesday, May 21, and it is the first time that the game has officially released in English.

Manic Miner Has Been Recreated As Manic Destruction!

Manic Miner was one of the most important and popular single-screen platformers on the classic British microcomputer, the ZX Spectrum. A few days ago, Stephen Smith from itch.io released a recreation of Manic Miner, but with physics that make the environments destructible. With the use of explosive grenades, Willy can now blast his way to the keys he needs to escape to the next level! This new game is titled Manic Destruction! And currently has a “name your own price” on its webpage. If you want to see it in action, watch this YouTube video (from Modern Retro Gaming). It’s funny to watch the walls break apart and fall down. Manic Destruction! Is available on Windows, Linus, and Mac.

Just as an aside, Stephen Smith is also the developer of Saboteur! 3D, a first-person remake of one of the greatest ZX Spectrum games ever, Saboteur! (Link to review from Speccy Nostalgia). Thank you, Stephen, for all your great work!

Telenet Shooting Collection II Announced for Nintendo Switch

Last week a Japanese trailer dropped for the Telenet Shooting Collection II on Nintendo Switch. In it, we see a showcase of four PC Engine (TurboGrafx-16) shmups available with the title. The games included are,

Of the four, only one of them, Final Zone II, was ever officially localized in English. Sadly (or not), it “features” among the most terrible box art ever for a game, along with an awful English dub to match. Since this trailer is for the Japanese release, I presume it won’t have the English version of the game as part of the package.

From a value perspective, Kiadan 00 is the clear winner, with it having a loose price of $86.09 on pricecharting.com as of May 17, 2025.

However, the first Telenet Shooting Collection did come to the USA even though two of its games were previously Japanese only. Hopefully this second set of games finds its way here as well. The Japanese release date is August, 28, 2025 with a list price of 7,480 yen ($51.36).

Toaplan Arcade Collection Volumes 1 & 2 Announced

In other Shmup news, Toaplan Arcade Collection Volumes 1 & 2 have been announced for release on August 14, 2025! Each volume includes 8 popular Toaplan shooters, and there will be digital and physical editions available. The collections are coming out on Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X. Here’s some links for trailers of the first and second collection.

In regard to the games themselves, volume 1 features,

  • Tiger-Heli
  • Flying Shark
  • Twin Cobra
  • Fire Shark
  • Out Zone
  • FixEight
  • Dogyuun
  • Batsugun

While volume 2 includes,

  • Slap Fight
  • Truxton
  • Hellfire
  • Twin Hawk
  • Zero Wing
  • Vimana
  • Truxton II
  • Grind Stormer

As one might expect, both sets have quality of life improvements such as rewind, save states, screen filters, and leaderboards. The official webpages for these two releases are linked here for Volume 1 and also for Volume 2. I’m very excited about these announcements and they should be great releases for those who haven’t picked up the games on Steam yet!

Operation Night Strikers Compilation Announced

Rounding out our game news for the week is the upcoming Operation Night Strikers for Nintendo Switch and Steam. The title was announced via a Japanese-language YouTube trailer showcasing the various games and features. Plus, an alternate English version of the trailer is available on Steam’s sales page, but I haven’t been able to find that one on YouTube.

The games to be included are,

  • Operation Wolf
  • Operation Thunderbolt
  • Night Striker
  • Space Gun

Three out of four of these are former lightgun games, with Night Striker also having a vehicle to control while playing. According to the trailer on Steam, the games have a lot of control options. Night Striker will have a new soundtrack. The games will also contain multiple language options and achievements.

Thoughts From the Japanese Trailer

From looking at the Japanese trailer, I think the physical Switch releases will contain console ports of the games as part of the package. The digital releases will require purchase of DLC to unlock those titles. There will also be a special edition available for Japanese Switch users. It will include reproduction pamphlets, a music CD, a bonus book, and more.

Separate from this release, it also showed some brief footage from Night Striker Gear, which is a modern sequel to Night Striker! With it seeming being developed by M2, it should be in good hands, and it looks really good artistically. The different Operation Night Strikers packages come out on August 7, 2025.

Again, for the Nintendo Switch, there are two physical options to choose from. The regular physical versions is 7,480 yen ($51.25) and the special edition is 14,980 yen ($102.65). Both Switch and Steam have digital editions as well. They are 4,730 yen ($32.41) with Operations Night Strikers CS DLC at a price of 2,750 yen ($18.84).

Although, the American Steam page does not currently list the game’s price.
