Friday’s Free Games! A Gameboy-Inspired Turn-Based RPG, 3D Action, Cute Platforming, and a 2D Boss Battle Challenge!

Friday’s Free Games is here again! Some of the standouts this time include a 3D action title with sword and spell mechanics in its battle system, a super sweet 3D Platformer with collectathon elements, and a Gameboy-inspired turn-based RPG!

As before, if you see an “*” next to a game title, it means the reviews for the title are rather positive on Steam, or I particular like the look of the game. Note: To save time, I have dropped doing the conclusion section to these posts starting with this one. Please see my individual thoughts for each game to know what stands out for me.

Here’s some quick links to the different categories:

Casual & Puzzle

Booklets Big Story*

Booklets Big Story is quite possibly the sweetest looking game for the week! It’s a 3D Platformer Collectathon with a charming art style and apparently a nice and touching storyline.

SOLANIS*

If you’ve ever wanted to fly as a bird, this might be the game for you! It seems to be a pretty casual flying game where you (surprisingly) try to return the moon to the sky. The art style is really neat looking!

Action

12.12.25

Despite having an unusual name, this is a post-apocalyptic third-person shooter. You are trying to defeat zombies as you clear your way to the central hospital. In addition to the action, the game contains puzzle elements as well. I enjoy the art style in this game. Note: This game is bloody and gory so discretion is advised.

Deadtime Defenders

This side scrolling shooter looter was abandoned by the developers years ago. Eventually they did come back to work on it and finished the game with a version 1.0 release. Kudos to them for doing so! The artwork looks great and seems to be fun for those who enjoy grabbing loot and customizing your character between runs. It is free at the Epic Games Store.

Double Down*

Double down is first person shooter with roguelite elements and a focus on defeating enemies in a casino environment. On Steam, the first 21 reviews are 100 percent positive!

Furi Demake – The Chain*

Although not a recent title, or a full game, this titles still looks great! It is a 2D side-scrolling action game that recreates the first boss fight from the 3D hack and slash game, Furi. For the demake, it takes anywhere between 10 and 30 minutes to beat, depending on your difficulty level or if you are going for a specific rank. I’m sharing it here because it will become a paid title on June 23, 2025. If you’re interested in it, be sure to add it to your library before then!

Ichor Burns*

In spite of this title having a really weird name, it’s one of the coolest games I found for this week! It is a 3D action game featuring a mix of sword and spell attacks for use in battle, and also deck building elements.

Magical Animal Farm

This is the first survivor action title for the week. Like the one just below, it has some cute aspects to the graphics, but they’re also not as detailed as that one either. You play as different animals using various weapons against enemies.

Pet Hero vs Zombie*

Here’s the other survivor action game for the week. This one is quite cute and adorable in some ways, except that you are animals that use guns and you are defeating zombies! It currently has a 91% positive rating on Steam with over 20 reviews.

PolyVinyl Pests!

In the far-off future, humans are gone and the world is covered in plastic. You play as an ant from one of two colonies, and tackle boss rush shooter levels. After defeating the boss, you then compete against your fellow ant to see who wins in the end.

Relapse

This is a first person shooter featuring parkour elements in a heavily stylized world.

Adventure, RPG, and Strategy

Crusaderman*

For fans of the original Gameboy and turn based RPGs, Crusaderman may be a good one to play! Sadly, the trailer doesn’t show a lot of gameplay, but looking at the pictures, it seems to have a great deal of personality! I like Priestgirl a lot.

Kriss’ Journey

Admittedly, this has the worst graphics of the week, considering there is none! Yet, it still seems intriguing to me. It is a text-based interactive fiction game with some adventure elements. Fans of choose your own adventure books should probably check it out.

Touch Type Tale: Strategic Typing*

There are a few legendary typing games out there, and this one seems to be one of the new favorites! It is a RTS game that is played by typing on a keyboard! It is currently free at the Epic Games Store.

Other

Contraindication

If you’re looking for a psychedelic adventure game using a RPG Maker game engine, this is the one for you. It’s about 20 or 30 minutes in length and even though the music is kind of weird in the trailer, I actually kind of like it.

In Death we Love

A short tale of a skeleton riding on his horse of death through the countryside. The theme isn’t my jam, but the art style is impressive. It isn’t much of a game though.

Midnight Snack*

Using one of the weirdest tools I’ve seen in a game, that being the dials of a microwave, Midnight Snack is a first-person horror game where you wander through an eerie forest. As of this writing, it is extremely positively rated, with 94% recommending the game.

Triage

How would you respond if you were a doctor in a small town, and you only had so much medical supplies to go around? What if you had to choose who would live and who would die from a mysterious illness? These are the kinds of questions that are asked of you in this title. It is a first-person simulation game with medicine crafting elements.

Tsukuyomi: The Divine Hunter

We’re ending today’s post with a bizarre one! The trailer for it doesn’t make much sense, and speaks of gods and demons, building decks of cards with AI, and a weird floating eye next to a Japanese temple structure. It is also designed by a visionary game creator, Kazuma Kaneko. Fans of the Shin Megami Tensei series of games will probably get the most out of this title due to some similar themes and art direction. Be aware that it is only rated as Mixed on Steam, though.

So, that is what we have for the week! What do you think? Will you be trying out any of these games? Let us know in the comments below. Thank you!
