Last year, there were many titles that were easily purchasable on the Xbox 360 online store that became more difficult to buy when Microsoft shutdown that storefront in the middle of 2024. One such game was Under Defeat HD.
It was a port of the popular helicopter Shmup that was first available on consoles for the Japanese Dreamcast in 2006. Later it was ported to the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. Last year, I believe the game was listed as $20 on the Xbox 360 store, but it did not go on sale prior to that storefront being retired on July 29, 2024.
Since that time, the Japanese Dreamcast version has now gone up to a loose price of just over $70. Even worse than that is the Japanese Xbox 360 release. Its loose price is $112.02. Both of these prices are as of 01/10/2025.
Today, I’m glad to report that an updated port of UNDER DEFEAT can now be found on Steam! According to the game’s trailer, it includes 3 game modes and multiple soundtracks. To me, one of the most exciting inclusions is additional built-in DLC that used to be exclusive to Japanese releases.
The Steam page doesn’t list the title’s release date, or its price. However, most of the shooters released by City Connection are $20 or less, so I hope their future release of UNDER DEFEAT will be at a similar price, at least when it goes on sale. I’ll be looking forward to buying it in the future!
